About Dr. Aussem
Dr. Aussem is a Milwaukee native and the owner of North Shore Hearing, an independent audiology practice in Glendale, WI. He provides in-office and mobile hearing care across Milwaukee’s north shore and the greater Milwaukee area, including on-site clinics at senior-living communities.
He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder and his Doctor of Audiology from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. His clinical career spans more than 12 years, including several years in private practice and over a decade with the Department of Veterans Affairs, most of it at the VA hospital in Madison, WI.
At the VA, Dr. Aussem developed the tele-audiology program for five remote clinics, piloting remote diagnostics, training and assessing tele-health technicians, and overseeing quality assurance for the IT and biomedical systems that supported remote care. As demand for tele-audiology grew nationally, he served as a master preceptor for other VA hospitals and clinics launching their own programs and contributed substantially to the Department of Veterans Affairs tele-audiology operations manual.
He left the VA in 2021 to build a practice around what he had seen change in patient care during and after COVID: people wanted access to care on their own terms, whether in a clinic or at home. North Shore Hearing was designed from the start to offer both.
Dr. Aussem sees every patient personally. His practice covers diagnostic hearing evaluations, hearing aid fittings, tinnitus care, earwax removal, custom hearing protection, assistive listening devices, tele-audiology, and aural rehabilitation. Dr. Aussem uses Real Ear Measurement to verify your hearing aid fitting, and nearly every patient has the chance to hear devices in the office before making a decision. Pricing is explained clearly up front, with both bundled and unbundled options, and appointments are never rushed.
His goal is simple: honest, thorough, professional hearing care for the community he grew up in.
